Together for Sheffield exists to help everyone in our city hear and respond to the Gospel. Our key initiative, Arise, brings together churches, ministries, and individuals in united prayer, practical mission, and bold public witness.
We are seeking a Head of Communications to provide high-level leadership and direction to our communications strategy. This is a senior voluntary role suited to someone with significant experience in strategic comms, marketing, or public engagement, who wants to contribute meaningfully to Gospel transformation in Sheffield.
You’ll work closely with the trustees and our Communications & Events Manager to shape messaging, align our channels, and ensure that Together for Sheffield and Arise communicate clearly, confidently, and with impact.
Role Overview
This role involves providing strategic oversight and practical input into campaigns, publications, digital engagement, civic communication, and supporter messaging.
We are looking for someone who can contribute 3 to 10 days per month, depending on your availability and the needs of the season. You’ll be a key part of our leadership ecosystem, bringing wisdom, capacity, and clarity to our growing comms work.
Key Responsibilities
Mentor or support the Communications & Events Manager
Lead the development and delivery of a strategic communications plan
Strengthen messaging across social media, email, web, print, and events
Input into campaigns, magazine content, video storytelling, and launch materials
Provide insight on fundraising, donor messaging, civic partnerships, and church comms
Represent communications at trustee level with regular updates and recommendations
Build scalable systems that align with our values and support future growth
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who brings:
Senior-level experience in communications, branding, PR, or media
Strategic thinking and the ability to shape culture through clear messaging
A confident communicator, strong writer, and excellent listener
Understanding of the Christian landscape in the UK and the dynamics of church life
Ability to mentor, collaborate, and grow team capacity
A heart for mission and a desire to use your skills to serve the city and the Church
