Bishop’s Badge Competition

Information for teachers, children’s workers, and parents

As part of Arise:Hallow 2022, Arise and the Diocese of Sheffield gave away over 5,000 badges to help believers across Sheffield and beyond wear a symbol of their faith over Halloween. This year, we're opening up the design process and we need your help!

Your children are invited to design a new badge that believers can wear during Arise:Hallow 2023.

Bishop Sophie will be choosing one design to be made into a badge and stickers that will be distributed across churches and schools in Sheffield and the wider Diocese. She will also choose two runners up, who will have their designs made into stickers.

The badge can feature anything to do with the Christian faith. You might ask your class/group/child to think about:

  • What does God’s love look like?

  • What does it look like to show love?

  • What is your favourite story from the life of Jesus?

The competition is open to any child up to age 18, so if you're a teacher, parent, childrens' worker or youth worker, we'd love you to encourage your kids to enter.

Download and read the Leaders Guide to make the most of the Bishop’s Badge Competition.

Entries should be handed in to teachers/leaders by 26 June and must be posted to the Diocese with the leader’s cover form by 28 June. Winners will be announced on 10 July.

If you have any questions about the competition, email hello@arisesheffield.org.

Resources for teachers/leaders

The Diocese of Sheffield have produced a short Powerpoint presentation aimed at KS2, which discusses symbols of faith and invites all children in your class - whether or not they have a faith themselves - to design a badge that represents Christian faith.

Download the Symbols of Faith presentation slides here.

There is also a short resource sharing the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand. You might want to share this story about Jesus with your children to inspire their badge designs.

Download the Jesus feeds the Five Thousand resource sheet here.

Resources for children

You might like to direct your class/group/child to some additional resources to help them learn more about Jesus, and God’s love. We will be adding free digital resources and videos to this page over the next week so that it’s ready for the competition launch,
