How can we as Christians change the conversation about Halloween?

To turn the focus from darkness to light, from fear to faith, from death to life…

So what can I do to get involved?

We know Halloween is a tricky subject for a lot of Christians. The question of ‘Should Christians celebrate Halloween?’ is the subject of many videos online but we think that is the wrong question.

Instead we ask ‘How can Christians engage with their neighbours, their communities, their friends and be a light for Christ at Halloween?’

To bring hope and hospitality on a night where communities are engaging with each other more than most other nights. Halloween isn’t something to be scared of but rather an opportunity to be grasped.

3 Simple Ways

to be more ‘open’ this year

  • Open a conversation...

    How can you be more intentional in opening a conversation with someone about the light, hope and faith we find in Jesus?

    How can we help?

    • Wear your faith - Wear something that sparks a curiosity in someone that makes them want to ask you about it. Check out the Arise Clothing Store for items that could start a conversation.

    • Decorate your house - When everyone else has houses adorned with spider webs and ghosts, stand out with a window display or pumpkin carving that makes someone stop, smile and ask a question. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to see previous window displays and send us yours to inspire others.

  • Open your door...

    Instead of hiding away, shutting the door and turning the lights off make your house as bright as possible, be present to those in your community and open your door to offer hospitality and hope.

    • Truth and Treat Bags - If you have been to any kids party you will know that all kids love a goody bag. The Truth and Treat bags are a great resource and provide an opportunity for kids to not just get treats but to hear the truth about a God that loves them and a light that shines in the darkness.   • Open your church...

    Churches are perfectly place to provide a safe space for people at Halloween. How can you make your church a beacon of light this Halloween?

    How can we help?

    • Light Parties - These are a simple way of bringing the community together. A safe place for kids to dress up in a non scary way, to have fun and to hear the gospel. It also gives a positive experience to the adults that bring the children. If you are hosting a light party this year please let us know by emailing hello@arisesheffield.org and we will make sure we show it on our map!
