Your Arise Hallow how-to

Are you ready for Arise Hallow? Make the most of your chance to shine in Sheffield with the tips and links below:

For Wear Your Faith Fortnight

22 October - 5 November 2023

Wear Your Faith Fortnight is a chance to shine, without needing to say anything. By wearing clothing or accessories that share your faith, you signal that you’re a Christian, and that you’re open to deeper conversations about God.

A stranger might strike up a conversation with you at a bus stop or barbers, a colleague might ask you something during a coffee break, or a neighbour might pause as you pass on the street.

Not only that: wearing a sign of our faith helps to remind us about Who we’re representing every day as we go about our lives. It can be a prompt to help us become more like Jesus, and a tool to become more confident in our identities as Christians.

Take the Wear Your Faith Fortnight challenge this year and see what difference it makes in your life.

It doesn’t even have to cost anything:

  1. Ask your church leader if your church is giving out free badges and stickers to help you wear your faith;

  2. You might own something already, or be able to borrow something from a friend or family member;

  3. Use a permanent or dry-erase marker to write a temporary message on your water bottle, or office mug;

  4. Print out one of our Wear Your Faith Fortnight colouring sheets and make the design your own, then display it in the window of your house or car.

  5. Take a look at the links below to buy something new that suits your style.

For Streets of Light

30 October - 5 November

Streets of Light is a citywide initiative inviting people to decorate a window of their house with a positive message of light, hope and love, and illuminate it each evening for a week around Halloween. This year the dates are 30 October - 5 November

Find out more about how to get involved, and sign up at www.streetsoflight.co.uk

Watch this video to see just how easy it is to create a Streets of Light window.

Not sure about tissue paper and card?

Here are some other simple ways to create a window:

Using a light-box: If you aren’t artistic but want to get involved, this is the easiest way to join in. Lightboxes can cost as little as £7.99 on Amazon, and Argos is selling one for £12.99. Just choose your message and put the box in your window. Job done!

Using paint pens: If you’d love to be involved in Streets of Light but aren’t sure where to start, check out this article with tips and advice about how to decorate a window, including links to recommended pens.

Using tissue paper: Or, if you’d like to get all the family involved, you might prefer to use tissue paper squares to create your design. This tutorial is for Christmas patterns but you can adapt the idea to create your own Streets of Light window, using coloured tissue paper, black card, and sticky-backed plastic.

Re-purpose your Summer solar lights: Finally, why not make use of any solar-powered fairy lights to illuminate your Streets of Light window? Charge them up during the day, then switch them on in your Streets of Light window during the evenings. Most hardware, garden, and homeware shops stock solar lights, as does Amazon.

For visiting trick-or-treaters

October 31

Halloween is a great opportunity to connect with families in your local area. What other night of the year do strangers knock on doors requesting gifts? We can give them the best Gift of all this Halloween.

This year Arise is offering church communities Bags of Hope, which contain a children’s Bible storybook, a Gospel of John, and some stickers, all within a takeaway bag ready for you to fill with sweet treats. If your church hasn’t ordered Bags of Hope, but you’d still like to share your faith with trick-or—treaters, here’s a quick shopping list of things you might need:
